MASSAGE THERAPY SERVICES

Stress, anxiety, and pain can dramatically restrict optimum health. Research on the benefits of massage therapy provides substantial evidence to utilize massage to reduce stress, pain, and muscle tension. It may also be helpful for digestive disorders, fibromyalgia, headaches, and soft tissue injuries.

There are numerous types of massage and bodywork. Our therapist emphasizes techniques and modalities to restore flexibility, improve posture, reduce muscle strain, and optimize comfort. She does her best to accommodate client requests and preferences. Your satisfaction is our priority! It is common to feel muscle soreness after massage, and it is advised to drink plenty of water after the session to stay hydrated.

Although massage is beneficial for most people, it may not be appropriate for those experiencing the following: DVT (blood clot), open or healing wounds, skin infections, fractures, burns, severe osteoporosis, and / or bleeding disorders. If any of these issues are in question, please consult your physician before scheduling a massage.

Josh Williams, DPT joined us for a year after he graduated from St. Augustine in Florida with honors.  He then pursued a position in Colorado for a year, and then explored the field as a traveling therapist for a year.  In 2013, he decided that First Choice Physical Therapy was his first choice for employment options!  Josh is a manual therapist, and his goal is to get you the results you need.  He has three main points for his patients: he only causes pain because he cares, he’s merely a guide along your road to recovery – your success is up to you, and if you want a quick easy fix – you’ve come to the wrong place!  Josh is very dedicated to his work, enthusiastic, and continually pursuing further training to sharpen his skills.  He is an asset of our team both treating patients, and assisting with business management.  When Jeff and Deana are unavailable, Josh is the main contact person for the clinic.

Amy Stielstra, DPT came on board with FCPT September 15, 2008.  Amy was first introduced to physical therapy as a college swimmer at San Diego State University.  She was able to continue her swimming career due to PT intervention.  Her rehabilitation experience led her to switch majors, graduating with a Bachelors of Kinesiology.  She then attended Missouri State University, earning  her Doctorate of Physical Therapy.  After graduation she moved back to her home state of Alaska, where she takes advantage of all the great outdoors has to offer.  Amy’s enthusiasm and athleticism bring a progressive and competitive edge to the clinic.  She is a very motivated person with a glowing personality.  She works well with all age groups, including children – as she has her own two active boys.  Amy provides each patient with quality care, meeting them where they are, to reach their personal goals.

Corissa graduated with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Northeastern University, Boston, MA, in 2008.  She minored in Spanish as well, in order to expand her communication skills.  She tested through the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA), was part of the university figure skating club, and later ran cross country for Northeastern.  She completed her pre graduate clinical rotations in: sub acute hospital, acute hospital, sub acute neurological rehabilitation, and out patient orthopedics.  Her passion is for international humanitarian aide.  She has volunteered in Chile, Haiti, and Thailand providing rehabilitation services to all age groups.  Corissa is always looking for opportunities to utilize her skills helping others!  She began her career working in skilled nursing, and later transitioned to orthopedics and home health physical therapy.  She began with First Choice Physical Therapy as a traveler in 2015, after completing rotations in California and Oregon.  Her traveling career ended when she met her husband here in Alaska, and is now full time at the clinic indefinitely.

Wendy is a true native of Alaska.  She lived in Colorado for over 20 years, earning her PTA degree in 1999 from Arapaho Community College.  She has worked in skilled nursing, outpatient orthopedic physical therapy, as well as supervising restorative rehab care.  Wendy graduated from the Colorado School of Healing Arts for Massage Therapy in 2003, and started her own massage business.  She managed this business until moving back to Alaska in 2007.  Wendy Moreiko, PTA, LMT, joined First Choice Physical Therapy in July 2007.  She believes that in order to get the full benefit of physical therapy, the client needs to be educated and involved in the progression of their care.  Wendy enjoys log cabin living and gardening in Big Lake, as well as pursuing her passion for photography.

Jessica attended massage school in Anchorage, at The Alaska Learning Institute for Massage Therapy.  She has provided massage services since 2003, specializing in Swedish, deep tissue, trigger point therapy, reflexology, myofascial release, and pregnancy massage.  Jessica provides the option of  hot rocks and Swedish hot packs, in conjunction with other treatment techniques.  Her goal is to relieve pain, and promote a relaxed state of mind for all her clients.

For the last eight years, Lynn has held the position of Billing Manager.  She has an immense deal of perseverance working with insurance companies: often waiting on hold for up to an hour and a half, in order to resolve claims.  Her get to business attitude gets the job done.  Lynn grew up in the valley, and has broad community involvement.  She is also a culinary graduate, so the team is spoiled by her divine dishes on occasion.

Deana partnered with her husband Jeff, in his dream of opening his own physical therapy clinic.  She became the business manager for First Choice Physical Therapy, after working in several medical offices – including the local hospital in Worland, WY (where they met and married in 2002).  Deana is a gracious, cheerful, and essential presence in our clinic.  She wears many hats: filling in at the front desk, doing laundry, cleaning, billing, marketing, among other necessary duties.   Deana manages the finances, and is happy to answer any questions regarding the clinic.

Dianne came on board with our team in March of 2008, as the front desk receptionist.  She has a customer service background that shines – going above and beyond her job title, to help with a variety of necessary tasks.

Laural joined the team in 2017, in order to provide additional administrative support.  She has over 15 years of combined experience in customer service, accounting, and project management.  In addition, she holds an associate’s degree in medical insurance billing and coding.  Laural grew up in Alaska, the daughter of a bush pilot.  In her free time she enjoys exploring the back country on horseback, volunteering with 4H, working in the rodeo, and participating in various other horse shows.
